Day Zero

Bonjour! I am sitting in the airport in Chicago, IL, waiting to board my nine hour direct flight to Paris, France. I will be there for three weeks--the first week I will be by myself, and starting the 8th of January I will be with a group of students from my college and taking a creative writing course (in English, thankfully).

During the first week there I will be in Paris for two days, and then travel to London on the Eurostar. I will see my aunt and uncle, then travel to Canterbury to see my cousins, then back to Paris in time for the trip!

This journey will be totally different for me--I've never been to a foreign country where I did not speak the language (like... at all). And I will be totally alone--for the first few days that is. I have promised myself I will ask for directions as little as possible (or not at all) and try to figure this out on my own. I've never been more excited, and more nervous.

It's raining in Chicago. When I arrive to Paris it should be partly cloudy and in the low 40s. It might snow when I get there, too. Paris should be beautiful regardless of the weather, and I just can't wait until I can sit down with a glass of wine and a croissant and my journal and just take it all in!

Bon voyage to me!
